Watch This | 'It still feels unreal': Olympic fencing champion Vivian Kong expresses thanks to supporters
The world's top-ranked fencer, Hong Kong's Vivian Kong, recently made history by winning the gold medal in women's epee at the Paris Olympics, marking Hong Kong's first gold medal of this Olympic Games. She returned to Hong Kong this morning (Aug. 1) and was interviewed at the airport.
"It's so good to be home," Kong said joyfully.
She noted that though her French friends had many people at the scene to support her, she felt the same warmth after she returned to the city.
Talking about the Hong Kong delegation's performance in the Olympics, she said, "We've had so many medals in Tokyo and now also in Paris, where I'm really proud of what we've achieved. "
After the thrilling final match, Kong doesn't seem fully adapted to the situation. "It still feels unreal... so I think I'm going to try and let this sink in and decide what's next." She also mentioned her injury in the past, saying that she just wanted to "fence her all."
Ultimately, she gave flying kisses to the audience at the press conference and paid tribute to her team.
