Number of mega events increased to 210 throughout this year, CE says

The number of mega events that were supposed to be organized this year would now be increased from 150 to 210, representing an increase of more than 40%, which would attract about 1.7 million participants and bring in HK$7.2 billion in spending, Chief Executive John Lee said at a press conference on May 21.

In the second half of the year, there will be 100 events, including the Hong Kong Performing Arts Expo and Fashion Design Week, he noted.

Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races to be held in June

Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races, jointly organized by the Tourism Board and the Hong Kong China Dragon Boat Association, will be held in Victoria Harbor on June 15 and 16, with the event expected to draw crowds of spectators.

Chairman of the Hong Kong China Dragon Boat Association, Chung Chi-lok said on May 23 that he believed the event will boost the tourism economy.

More than 4,000 athletes from a dozen countries and regions, including China, Thailand and Singapore, will take part. Teams from the Hong Kong and Macao SARs will also compete.

Participants this year will also have a chance to join special races commemorating the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
