Hong Kong's higher education sector has delivered another strong performance in the QS World University Rankings: Asia Region 2027, with five local universities placing among Asia's top 10, including three in the top five, highlighting the city's international competitiveness and academic excellence.
The University of Hong Kong (HKU) retained its position as Asia's No 1 university for another year, while City University of Hong Kong (CityU) and the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) ranked fourth and fifth respectively. Eight HK universities improved their positions compared with last year, and all 11 local institutions included in the rankings placed among Asia's top 500, reflecting the continued strength of the city's higher education sector.
HK universities continued to perform strongly across several key indicators, including academic reputation, employer reputation, internationalisation and research impact. Their sustained efforts in improving teaching quality, advancing research and innovation, and strengthening international collaboration have further enhanced the global recognition and influence of HK's higher education sector.
The strong results reflect the longstanding commitment of HK's universities to excellence in teaching, research and talent development. They also underscore the HKSAR government's continued investment in resources and implementation of forward-looking measures to support the development of higher education, create a favourable environment for universities and drive the sector towards higher standards.
