Japanese DJ Mao Hamasaki, known professionally as DJ Mao, was suspected of being drugged at a private party in Tsim Sha Tsui in the early hours of Nov 1 and was taken to hospital after police were called.

According to reports, Hamasaki had finished a DJ set at a bar in Wan Chai and, at about 1:30 am, went with a 44-year-old man surnamed Mak to a bar at 65 Mody Road, Tsim Sha Tsui. She drank three glasses of whisky on two occasions.

At about 3:30 am, an unidentified man suddenly handed her a glass of orange juice. After drinking it, she immediately felt dazed and disoriented. Mak also noticed white powdery sediment in the orange juice. After Hamasaki regained consciousness, Mak took her out of the venue and called police for help. She was later sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for examination, and doctors took blood samples.

Media reports said that after she was taken to hospital, tests found four drug components in her body, including "Happy Water" and ecstasy. Her manager said she needed to stay in the intensive care unit. After regaining consciousness this morning, she said there was obvious powder residue at the bottom of the glass involved, and the situation was highly suspicious.

Police said that at 4:57 am today, they received a report from a male DJ saying that his female colleague was suspected of being drugged at a venue at 65 Mody Road, Tsim Sha Tsui. It is understood that the victim had drunk several glasses of whisky and a drink suspected to be orange juice, and white powdery sediment was suspected at the bottom of the latter. Police have classified the case as "administering poison with intent to injure" and assigned it to Yau Tsim Police District Criminal Investigation Team 6 for follow-up.
