More than 2,000 drones illuminated the skies over Victoria Harbour on Oct. 30 in a special Halloween light show presented by Under the Castle (UTC), the dark fantasy IP brand founded by Hong Kong singer Jackson Wang, in collaboration with Hung Hom New Promenade.
The brand's signature characters, PUMPKIE and SPOOKIE, made their first appearance in the night sky over Victoria Harbour in drone form. Residents and fans were invited to watch the spectacle from Hung Hom New Promenade, which offers a 270-degree panoramic view of the harbour skyline.
The show opened with a joint logo featuring UTC and Hung Hom New Promenade, before the two characters took centre stage. Built around the theme of a Halloween trick-or-treat adventure, the display blended UTC's dark aesthetic with traditional Halloween elements, using coordinated drone formations to bring dynamic scenes to life, including the characters strolling through the streets and fleeing on broomsticks.
The aerial performance transformed characters previously seen in the brand's stories and physical installations into an animated spectacle in the sky. At the same time, the newly completed giant technological installation, the "eye of technology", screened a co-branded animation, creating a visual dialogue with the drone formations above.
The event marked the first cross-sector collaboration between a new HK landmark and an original intellectual property (IP) brand. It also reinforced UTC's Halloween identity and brought its month-and-a-half-long series of offline activities in HK to a close.
For Hung Hom New Promenade, the collaboration introduced elements of trend culture and technology to the waterfront venue. It will continue to bring in diverse and vibrant attractions in the future, contributing to the development of HK's economy, tourism and cultural scene.
