The highly anticipated Apple's first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo, officially went on sale worldwide on Oct. 23, with the first batch of stock selling out rapidly. Users in various parts of the world who received the first iPhone Duo units have reported issues with the inner display (flexible OLED panel) at the hinge crease, including cracking, black lines, or abnormally bright white lines. In response, Apple has issued an official statement to foreign media, acknowledging that a very small number of units are affected and offering free replacement service.
Apple released an official statement to foreign media outlet 9to5Mac, stating that early user feedback on the iPhone Duo has been very positive, and it is exciting to see developers quickly updating their apps to leverage the potential of its unique form factor. The company is aware that a very small number of iPhone Duo units have inner displays affected by the relevant issue. If users experience problems with their iPhone Duo screen, they should immediately contact AppleCare to arrange a replacement.
Regarding after-sales rights for affected users, Apple emphasized that as long as the issue is confirmed to be caused by this problem, users can receive an original factory replacement even without having purchased AppleCare+ extended coverage. If users purchased the device through a carrier plan or contract phone channel, Apple recommends contacting AppleCare directly or visiting an Apple Store rather than going through the carrier, in order to expedite the replacement process. Apple emphasized that the vast majority of iPhone Duo units are functioning normally, and the issue is limited to a very small number of cases and typically manifests quickly during the initial period of use.
