At 8:01 am today (Oct. 26), police received a report from a man in his twenties saying that while passing the junction of Pok Wai Road and Pok Wai West Road in Yuen Long, he was suddenly chased by three dogs and was bitten on the calf by one of them. Rescue personnel arrived at the scene and sent the injured man to Pok Oi Hospital for treatment. Police are investigating the cause of the incident.
On Sept. 19 this year, a fatal dog attack tragedy had already occurred on Pok Wai South Road in Yuen Long. A 27-year-old woman was suddenly chased and bitten by multiple medium-sized dogs on her way home at the location, and was later found lying on the pavement by passers-by in the early hours of Sept. 20, with animal bite marks all over her body. She was certified dead after being sent to hospital. A forensic pathologist preliminarily confirmed that the deceased most likely died as a result of bites to the neck and trachea by several dogs.
After the tragedy, the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) and the Police conducted a joint dog-catching operation in the vicinity of Pok Wai South Road. During the five-day operation, the AFCD caught a total of eight unaccompanied dogs and immediately removed them to the AFCD Animal Management Centre for detention and observation. In addition, the authorities also investigated nearly 20 "warehouse dogs" in the area around the scene, testing whether they carried the deceased's DNA, and attempted to match the dogs' teeth with the bite marks on the deceased's body. The investigation results will be handed to the Coroner's Court.
