Basketball legends return to Southorn Stadium after 21 years.
Legendary basketball ambassadors and court tricksters, the Harlem Globetrotters, have announced their long-awaited return to Hong Kong for "The Harlem Globetrotters 100 Year Tour" after 21 years. Fresh off receiving the prestigious FIBA Order of Merit, the world-famous team will light up Southorn Stadium with four exclusive shows from Nov. 20 to 22.
For 100 years, the Globetrotters have defied gravity, rewritten the rules of basketball, and brought smiles to hundreds of millions of fans worldwide. Their centennial stop at Wan Chai's iconic Southorn Indoor Stadium promises to bring that signature mix of world-class hoop artistry and infectious laughter back to local audiences.
Global Distinction: FIBA's Highest Honor Meets 100-Year Legacy
Awarded by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), the FIBA Order of Merit recognizes a century of breaking cultural barriers and growing the game across every corner of the globe. This prestigious seal of approval reinforces the Globetrotters' unique status beyond traditional sports, honoring a legacy built on athleticism, goodwill, and universal entertainment.
"It's been over two decades since the Harlem Globetrotters entertained the people of Hong Kong, and our 100th anniversary creates a phenomenal opportunity for us to return and bring the joy and love that we celebrate with our fans all over the world," said Keith Dawkins, President, Harlem Globetrotters & Herschend Entertainment Studios. "Basketball is a global sport, and China is a significant basketball market, with Hong Kong's Southorn Stadium sitting at the heart of its local basketball culture. We hope that our unparalleled brand of basketball entertainment will energize the city and broaden our international fan base."
Community First: Youth Empowerment and Social Impact
Beyond court magic, the Globetrotters carry a legendary global legacy as UN Goodwill Ambassadors. The upcoming tour builds on an August community visit to Lok Sin Tong Wong Chung Ming Secondary School, where Globetrotters icons Cherelle "Torch" George and Mark "Splash" Blount connected with over 140 local students and families through interactive clinics and motivational talks.
Marking a deeper commitment to community engagement, promoter Basketainment Asia has partnered with The Lok Sin Tong Benevolent Society, Kowloon and the Hong Kong Playground Association (HKPA). Together, they will roll out player-led games & workshops, neighborhood visits, and broad ticketing access, making sure the Globetrotters' historic 100th anniversary leaves a lasting, positive footprint across Hong Kong.
Nostalgia Hits the Court: The 2005 Fan Tribute
Southorn Stadium remains the undisputed beating heart of Hong Kong hoops culture, having set the stage for the Globetrotters' unforgettable 2005 Hong Kong stop. Tapping into that legacy, this year's tour introduces a nostalgic tribute to long-time local fans: inviting devoted fans to share their personal or family memories from the 2005 show in the comments on the official Instagram or Facebook pages (@harlem_globetrotters_china). Participants will stand a chance to win complimentary tickets and join exclusive surprise events. Full campaign terms and redemption guidelines will be rolled out across official digital platforms leading up to the event.
5-Year Strategic Alliance Across Greater China
Brought to the city by Basketainment Asia, this tour marks the launch of a transformative five-year strategic partnership through 2031 between Basketainment Asia and Globetrotters. The initiative is set to redefine live sports entertainment across the Greater China region, spanning youth training programs, elite trick-basketball scouting, merchandising, and immersive fan engagements.
"The Harlem Globetrotters have spent 100 years spreading hope, unity, and laughter across the globe," said Marcus Kam, CEO of Basketainment Asia. "As UN Goodwill Ambassadors, their legacy proves that sport transcends boundaries. We are proud to build on that heritage over the next five years, using basketball as a bridge to uplift underrepresented youth, promote sports inclusion, and share that infectious goodwill with fans and families across the regions."
