Blending profound history with vibrant vitality is how Emilia Ziva, Vice Mayor of Heraklion in Attica, Greece, describes the ancient Chinese city of Luoyang during her recent visit.
In an exclusive interview, Ziva spoke highly of Luoyang's unique development charm, noting that the millennia-old capital never rests on its historical laurels. While preserving its profound cultural traditions, the city has fostered robust economic growth driven by advanced manufacturing and emerging technologies, where time-honored heritage and futuristic development thrive side by side.
"What impresses me most is that Luoyang does not merely live in the past. It shows how a city can grow steadily through manufacturing and embrace rapid future development with new technologies. The perfect combination of solid traditions and dynamic innovation is absolutely remarkable," she said.
Sharing her insights on cross-cultural exchanges, Ziva said this China trip will make her hometown in Greece more appealing. Despite different development starting points, Greece and China share the same aspiration for a better life for all people.
"We focus on people, especially the younger generation. We are striving for a better future for everyone. Regardless of where we come from, the future belongs to all of us, especially young people. That's why we value exchanges for the next generation, and there is still much more for us to communicate and cooperate on," she remarked.
"Cultural heritage serves as a bridge connecting people across the world," Ziva stressed. She believes that digital technology can further facilitate cultural sharing and educational exchanges, boosting diverse cooperation between cities and peoples of the two ancient civilizations.
Noting that the current exchanges are just a starting point, Ziva looked forward to deeper and broader cooperation between China and Greece. She emphasized that the two countries should leverage youth exchanges and technological empowerment to revitalize cultural heritage, and continuously strengthen city-level and people-to-people bonds.
