The new Huanggang Port officially opened today (Oct. 12), providing 24-hour clearance services for passengers and passenger vehicles. Xue Huaming, Head of the First Port Division of the Shenzhen Port Office, said that on the first day of operation, initial passenger flow is expected to reach 40,000 to 50,000, with the peak likely to occur this weekend.
Xue said Shenzhen Customs, border inspection, and the port operations team, including peripheral support forces, are fully prepared. During peak periods, they will coordinate with the Hong Kong side to ensure efficient and convenient clearance for travellers.
The new Huanggang Port began services at 6:30 am today. As of 8:30 am, a total of 5,170 passengers had been recorded entering and exiting, up about 60% compared to the same period on a normal day. On vehicle clearance, the new port recorded 953 vehicle trips between 6:30 am and 8:30 am, about 30% higher than usual.
Secretary for Security Chris Tang told reporters this morning that overall, the new Huanggang Port has been operating very smoothly since opening. All "cooperative inspection" counters and the "five-in-one" vehicle clearance system are operating normally and efficiently, the system is stable, and no abnormalities have occurred. Members of the public and travellers have basically not had to wait. For vehicles, waiting times are under 5 minutes, similar to normal days, but clearance time has been reduced from 10 minutes to about 2 minutes.
