On the morning of Oct. 12, the reconstructed Huanggang Port officially began operation. Mr Tam, who works for the cross-boundary bus operator, drove a coach running between Mong Kok and Huanggang Port from Hong Kong into Shenzhen to welcome the first group of mainland tourists travelling to Hong Kong that day. Mr Tam said vehicle lanes now require documents to be presented only once to complete inspection, taking just one to two minutes — "extremely fast." "I have been driving coaches back and forth through Huanggang Port for more than 20 years. It makes me very happy to see such continuous improvements," he said.
Mr Tse, who drove a business vehicle into Shenzhen and has used Huanggang Port for more than 10 years, said he has deep feelings for the port. To mark its reopening after reconstruction, he decorated his vehicle with many national flags and Hong Kong SAR flags. "I decorated it specially for today!" he said.
The new Huanggang Port joint inspection building is equipped with 134 self-service channels, 68 manual counters and 28 vehicle lanes. It implements the "co-location" arrangement, under which Shenzhen and Hong Kong inspection units conduct supervision and inspection in the same building. It also adopts for the first time between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, a new clearance model of "Cooperative Inspection Channels," systematically reshaping the clearance process.
