The public are reminded not to bring uncooked or inadequately cooked regulated food into Hong Kong illegally, as the new Huanggang Port is set to open on Oct. 12, according to the Centre for Food Safety (CFS).
The new port will officially begin operations at 6:30 am on Oct. 12. The CFS reiterated on Saturday (Oct. 10) that anyone returning to HK through any entry control point must not illegally bring in game, meat, poultry or eggs that have not been thoroughly cooked.
The centre said people caught illegally bringing regulated food into HK through any entry control point could face prosecution. It also warned that such food may harbour disease-causing bacteria if improperly stored during transit, posing risks to food safety and personal health.
The CFS will deploy specially trained detector dogs to sniff out meat at land boundary control points to assist enforcement officers and strengthen efforts to intercept illegal imports.
