The trial over the alleged killing and dismemberment of socialite Abby Choi Tin-fung (HCCC 198/2025) continued at the High Court on October 5, with Choi's mother, Cheung Yin-fa, testifying about Choi's relationships with the Tam and Kwong families.
Cheung told the court that Choi began dating Chris Tam Fong-chun in late 2015 and held a wedding banquet in 2016, though the couple did not register their marriage because Choi's divorce from her former husband, Alex Kwong Kong-chi, had not been finalized at the time.
According to Cheung, Tam's father gifted Choi a flat at Manhattan Hill worth about HK$42 million and also provided funds for investment over the years. Cheung estimated that the Tam family had given Choi more than HK$300 million in total, while Choi had about HK$100 million in her accounts.
Cheung further testified about a luxury unit at Kadoorie Hill, saying the purchase money came from the Tam family. She said Choi planned to buy the flat in 2019 for her two children with Alex Kwong Kong-chi to live in, while also treating it as an investment.
Cheung told the court the Kadoorie Hill flat was registered in the name of the second defendant, Kwong Kau, explaining that the arrangement was intended as housing for the children. She said registering the property under Choi's name would have triggered more than HK$9 million in taxes, and she testified that Kwong Kau had promised he would cooperate and hand over the flat if needed.
Separately, the court has heard that Choi's dismembered remains were discovered in a village house in Lung Mei Tsuen, Tai Po, in February 2023. The defendants in the case are Choi's ex-husband Alex Kwong Kong-chi, her former brother-in-law Anthony Kwong Kong-kit, and her former father-in-law Kwong Kau, who are standing trial on charges of murder and preventing the lawful burial of a body.、
