Hong Kong's largest public hospital, Kai Tak Hospital, began operations today (Oct. 5). The Family Medicine Integrated Centre, located in the Specialist Out-patient Clinic Block, opened its doors to patients at 8:30 am and began consultations at 9 am. A DotDotNews reporter at the scene observed that from around 8:30 am, dozens of residents arrived one after another to wait for treatment.

Kai Tak Hospital will gradually replace Queen Elizabeth Hospital, serving more than 1.8 million people across Yau Tsim Mong, Kowloon City, Wong Tai Sin, and Kwun Tong districts. The Family Medicine Integrated Centre in the Specialist Outpatient Building is among the first services to open, initially offering 350 general outpatient quotas per day. In future, new specialist outpatients will be able to make one-stop appointments on the ground floor of the Specialist Outpatient Building, without having to visit different floors for different specialties — taking an average of 15 minutes to complete, half the time required previously.
