A 34-year-old local man has been charged with voyeurism after pinhole cameras were discovered in the false ceiling of changing rooms at a 24/7 FITNESS outlet on Lek Yuen Estate in Sha Tin.
Police arrested the man, surnamed Fung, in Sha Tin on Sunday (Sept. 27) following an investigation into the discovery of the concealed cameras.
The man appeared at Shatin Magistrates' Courts today (Sept. 29) to face one count of voyeurism. No plea was required at this stage.
The prosecution applied to adjourn the case until Nov. 25 to allow for further investigation, including the examination of the devices seized and efforts to trace the victims. Acting Principal Magistrate approved the application.
The defendant was granted HK$2,000 bail on conditions including not leaving Hong Kong, having no contact with prosecution witnesses, and not entering the 24/7 FITNESS outlet where the incident occurred.
Police received a report from a staff member of the fitness centre on Sept. 25 after a customer discovered a suspected pinhole camera in a changing room.
The fitness centre has two women's toilets, one men's toilet and four individual changing rooms that can be used by both men and women. Each of the four changing rooms has separate showering and changing areas.
After officers arrived, they conducted a thorough search of all the toilets and changing rooms. They eventually found three pinhole cameras in three of the individual changing rooms and seized three memory cards.
Through digital forensic examination, officers retrieved relevant footage from the memory cards, which helped them quickly identify the suspect and launch an arrest operation.
