A fire broke out at a roast meat shop in Sha Tin's Shek Mun on Friday morning (Sept. 5), sending thick black smoke billowing through the streets and prompting diners and passers-by to flee.
The fire broke out at a roast meat shop on On Kwan Street in Shek Mun at around 11 am on Sept. 5. Large amounts of dense black smoke quickly filled the street, forcing diners and pedestrians to evacuate. Firefighters arrived at the scene and extinguished the blaze. No one was injured.
Photos and videos circulating online showed thick black smoke pouring from the shop's ventilation outlet, blanketing the area like a huge dark cloud as pedestrians covered their noses while passing through the smoke.
The fire was reportedly sparked when cooking flames suddenly intensified, setting grease accumulated in the shop's exhaust hood alight.
The thick smoke subsequently spread into the shopping centre, while smoke also reached Shek Mun MTR Station.
