Hong Kong's Victoria Park has been transformed into a colourful celebration of Mid-Autumn Festival, with the inaugural International Lantern Spectacular bringing lanterns from 20 countries together at the World Lantern Boulevard.
The display has drawn crowds of visitors, with long queues forming from the early evening. When the DotDotNews reporter arrived at around 7 p.m., visitors faced a wait of around two hours to enter the lantern street.
Those who experienced the displays at Victoria Park were impressed by the variety and craftsmanship of the lanterns.
"This is a lot more spacious this year, and the installations are very professional and good-looking," said Akos Kenez from Hungary.
"The craftsmanship is amazing. I didn't know you could do so much with lanterns," said Jenn and Jess from the US, adding that the displays offered an immersive and interactive experience.
For international visitors, the lanterns also offered a chance to discover HK's festive traditions.
"It's a beautiful experience," said Piyusha Hirpurkar from India, who particularly enjoyed the traditional red lanterns and the colourful displays.
She also said the experience had made her want to return to HK and explore more of the city's traditional culture.
The International Lantern Spectacular runs at Victoria Park from Sept. 17 to Oct. 4, with the lantern displays lit from 6:30 p.m. The opening hours have been extended to midnight (12 am) from Sept. 24 to 27. Admission is free, although entry queues may close early depending on visitor numbers.
