The municipal engineering project for the Huanggang Port Joint Inspection Building passed completion acceptance on Sep. 23 and is now ready for traffic, according to an announcement on the WeChat official account "Shenzhen Release," paving the way for the port's official opening.
The Huanggang Port Joint Inspection Building project consists of two parts: the new joint inspection building and peripheral municipal works. The municipal works are tasked with improving the road network in the Shenzhen-Hong Kong border inspection area, enhancing supporting capacity for port clearance, and deepening infrastructure connectivity between the two sides.
The construction area is divided into three nodes — Huanggang Road, the North Plaza and Lok Ma Chau — and five grid zones.
The Huanggang Road node that passed completion acceptance includes new bridge ramps, new at-grade auxiliary roads and new underground tunnels. Connected to the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Expressway and Huanggang Road, it enables seamless switching between the port and the expressway network and serves as a key channel linking Huanggang Port to the Shenzhen side.
The North Plaza area and Lok Ma Chau Bridge previously passed completion acceptance and were handed over. The North Plaza connects Huanggang Port Station on Metro Line 7 with the B2 floor of the joint inspection building, allowing passengers to reach the clearance area directly by metro. The J1 and J2 underground tunnels separate traffic flows for taxis, buses and private vehicles, which will help resolve the peak-hour dilemma of vehicles being able to enter but unable to leave.
Huanggang Port is positioned as the most important 24-hour passenger land port between Hong Kong and Shenzhen. It will implement a co-location arrangement and a new "cooperative inspection, one-time release" clearance model. The project will also provide supporting backup for cross-boundary traffic organization and urban operations during the 33rd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting.
