The opening ceremony of the 20th Asian Games will be held at 5 p.m. Hong Kong time today (Sept. 19) at Paloma Mizuho Stadium in Nagoya, Japan.

Chinese basketball team captain Hu Mingxuan and Olympic boxing gold medalist Wu Yu will serve as flag bearers for China at the opening ceremony, while Ivan Yang Pok-man, a three-on-three basketball player, and wushu star Lydia Sham Hui-yu will carry the flag for the HKSAR.

HOY TV Channel 77 will begin live coverage at 4 p.m. today.

The Games will officially run from Sept. 19 to Oct. 4, with more than 11,000 athletes from 45 countries and regions set to compete. A total of 54 venues will be used across multiple competition zones.

In addition to Aichi and Nagoya, some events will be held in other zones, including Tokyo, Izu, Gifu and Osaka.

One of the highlights of the opening ceremony will be the final lighting of the Asian Games cauldron. As Japan has hosted the Asian Games twice before, the flame-lighting ceremony for this edition will take place across three regions—Tokyo, Hiroshima and Aichi-Nagoya. The three flames will then be brought together to light the main Asian Games cauldron.
