New iPhone 18 goes on sale: Long queues return to Sin Tat Plaza, top-spec model resold at over HK$3,500 premium

The latest iPhone 18 and iPhone 18 Pro Max officially went on sale today (Sept. 18). A DotDotNews reporter visited Sin Tat Plaza in Mong Kok to check the resale market. The 2TB iPhone 18 Pro Max, originally priced at HK$21,999, was being resold for HK$25,500 — a premium of HK$3,501.

Apple stores across Hong Kong began selling the new phones at 8 am this morning. The reporter headed to Sin Tat Plaza, a hotspot for reselling, at noon. Right after exiting Mong Kok MTR Station Exit D, numerous temporary "high-price buyback" stalls were seen aggressively soliciting customers along the way.

Long queues formed at multiple entrances to Sin Tat Plaza, with some lines spilling onto the pavement. Inside the mall, the scene resembled a coiled snake, with most shopfronts surrounded by crowds, causing congestion. People were constantly entering the mall carrying Apple Store bags, while scalpers held conspicuous wads of cash.

On buyback prices, one shop was offering HK$14,000 for the 256GB iPhone 18 Pro Max, originally priced at HK$11,499, and HK$24,700 for the 2TB iPhone 18 Pro Max, originally priced at HK$21,999.

On resale prices, the 256GB iPhone 18 Pro Max was selling for HK$14,500 — a premium of HK$3,001 — while the 2TB iPhone 18 Pro Max was selling for HK$25,500, a premium of HK$3,501.
