Chief Executive John Lee announced Hong Kong's first five-year plan today (Sept. 16) and delivered the 2026 Policy Address. To further promote "sports plus mega events," the government will study redeveloping the main Victoria Park tennis courts and their ancillary facilities into an iconic all-weather multi-purpose venue. The venue would host larger and higher-level sports events, as well as performances when needed.

A government source said construction is expected to begin within four to five years. The venue is being designed for sports use, including basketball, tennis and volleyball competitions. If timing allows, it could also host concerts and may become the fourth major venue for large-scale concerts after Kai Tak, AsiaWorld-Expo and the Hong Kong Coliseum.
