A parking dispute between two drivers in Yau Tong turned violent on Tuesday (Sept. 9), with a truck driver allegedly hitting a minibus driver on the head with a metal pipe, according to a video circulating widely online.
The footage shows a tall male driver of a snail truck apparently arguing with a male minibus driver before striking him on the head with a metal pipe about one metre long. The minibus driver fell to the ground and struggled in pain.
The incident occurred at around 6 p.m. on Wednesday (Sept. 9) outside the Sam Ka Tsuen Ferry Pier on Shung Shun Street in Yau Tong.
The truck driver, surnamed Tsang, 51, and the minibus driver, surnamed Cheung, 69, allegedly argued over a parking issue in the middle of the road.
During the confrontation, the minibus driver first pushed the truck driver with his hand. The truck driver then allegedly became enraged, raised the metal pipe with both hands and brought it down forcefully on the minibus driver's head, producing a loud "clang".
After being struck, the minibus driver staggered before falling to the ground and struggling in pain.
The truck driver, who was bald, put the metal pipe back inside the truck's cab and remained at the scene.
Police later arrived after receiving a report of the incident. Two officers helped the minibus driver to his feet and took him to the roadside for assistance.
The truck driver was arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, while the minibus driver was arrested on suspicion of common assault. The minibus driver was conscious when he was taken to the hospital for treatment for a head injury.
