At 10:53 p.m. of Sept. 5, police received a report from a passer-by who, while walking near Tsuen Wing House in Lai Tak Tsuen, Tai Hang, found a young girl suspected to have fallen from a height and lying unconscious. Rescue teams arrived and rushed her to Ruttonjee Hospital for emergency treatment, but she was later confirmed dead.

The deceased, surnamed Siu (12), had just been promoted to form one. She lived with her parents and elder sister on the 19th floor of the above address. Police later reviewed the girl's diary and found a suicide note, indicating that she had been having suicidal thoughts since May this year due to depression and academic pressure. It is believed she may have opened a window and jumped from the residence after her family fell asleep last night. The case is not regarded as suspicious, though the exact cause of death is pending an autopsy.

At about 11 p.m. of Sept. 5, the father returned home from work, and on discovering his younger daughter was missing, he went downstairs to search out of concern. He met police officers at the scene and was told that his daughter had fallen to her death, leaving him devastated. A neighbour said that after learning the news, Siu's father became emotionally overwhelmed, and at one point cried out: "Where are you?" "When did you jump?" The scene deeply moved those present.
