Two people were found dead and three others taken to hospital after a fire broke out Saturday night (Spet. 5) at a building in the central Japanese prefecture of Gifu, local media reported.
According to Kyodo News, police received an emergency call at around 9 p.m. local time reporting that a stabbing had occurred and that someone had poured gasoline on a two-story building in Motosu City that houses both a pastry shop and a residence. The blaze was extinguished roughly three hours later.
Public broadcaster NHK, citing police, reported that a total of 11 people, including a 66-year-old woman who runs the shop and 10 acquaintances, were gathered at the building when the fire broke out.
Police suspect that one of the people present may have been involved in the incident and are investigating further. The woman was among those taken to hospital.
