Ten classic films starring Cheng Pei-pei will be screened at the Hong Kong Film Archive from Oct. 2 to Dec. 4 as part of a retrospective paying tribute to the legendary actress. Tickets, priced at HK$40, go on sale today (Sept. 5).
The Hong Kong Film Archive's "Morning Matinee" programme will present the retrospective under the theme "Chivalry and Grace: In Memory of Cheng Pei-pei", featuring 10 films spanning different genres. The selection includes romance films, wuxia films, kung fu films and comedies, offering audiences a chance to revisit Cheng's remarkable career in both dramatic and action roles.
Known as the "Queen of Wuxia", Cheng Pei-pei made her mark on the film industry from the 1960s onwards. With a strong foundation in dance, she became widely known for her distinctive portrayals of female swordswomen who combined strength with grace. She later expanded her career from film into television, shining across different fields.
