A screen at the ceiling of the departure hall of Hong Kong International Airport Terminal 2 (T2) was suspected to have become detached and left hanging in mid-air, according to a video circulating on social media today (Sept. 5). The area underneath was cordoned off, with pedestrians barred from passing through.

Police received a report at 8:35 a.m. that a decorative fixture, about 1.8 metres above the ground, was in danger of falling in the departure hall of T2 at the airport.

Officers arrived at the scene and found that the wire suspending the decorative fixture had broken. No one was injured in the incident, and there was no immediate danger. The matter was referred to the relevant organization for follow-up.

The new passenger departure facilities at Terminal 2 of Hong Kong International Airport officially began operations on May 27, 2026, marking a new chapter for HK's status as an international aviation hub. The new facilities mainly serve passengers travelling on short-haul and regional routes, with 15 airlines having moved in in phases.
