The No. 1 Standby Signal will remain in force today (Sept. 3), the Hong Kong Observatory said.
The Observatory said tropical storm Saudel made landfall in Zhangzhou, Fujian Province, this morning.
According to the latest forecast track, Saudel will cross inland areas of eastern Guangdong later today and gradually weaken before moving close to the Pearl River Estuary tomorrow.
However, the extent of its weakening remains uncertain. The Observatory will assess whether to issue the No. 3 Strong Wind Signal based on Saudel's intensity, the distance between its area of strong winds and the Pearl River Estuary, and changes in wind conditions in HK.
