The inaugural Global Unicorn Summit, hosted by Hong Kong Ta Kung Wen Wei Media Group, is being held today and tomorrow (Aug. 24 and 25) at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Under the theme "BORN TO LEAD, BUILT TO CREATE," the summit is positioned to connect Hong Kong with the world, bringing together global innovation forces. It serves as a high-level, international platform for collaboration across enterprises, capital, technology, talent, policy, and services within the innovation and technology ecosystem. The summit aims to facilitate the settlement of global unicorn companies in Hong Kong, support their public listings in the city, and enable them to expand globally through Hong Kong, thereby contributing to the development of Hong Kong as an international I&T hub.
In her address, Li Qianxin, Chairman of CCB International (Holdings) Limited, noted that capital and innovation are forging ever‑closer synergy, and that the value anchors of the next generation of unicorns are quietly shifting. Capital markets, she said, are moving away from evaluating companies purely on scale growth, and are now placing greater emphasis on hard‑core technological moats, supply‑chain control, and credible governance capabilities. She predicted that a large number of future unicorns will emerge at the deep intersection of artificial intelligence and the real economy.
Li stressed that Hong Kong's simultaneous efforts to reinforce its status as an international financial centre and build itself into an international I&T hub constitute "two engines that resonate at the same frequency." Unicorns, she said, carry the important historical mission of new quality productive forces, and Hong Kong can leverage its unique advantages as both a financial and I&T centre to help unicorns navigate economic cycles and grow alongside them – positioning the city as a "super stakeholder" in advancing the nation's technological and financial strength.
