A low-pressure area is bringing showers to the northern South China Sea and the coast of Guangdong. The Hong Kong Observatory said at 8:30 a.m. Thursday (Aug. 20) that an area of heavy rain located south and east of HK was gradually moving closer and was expected to affect the city over the next two to three hours. Rain has since begun affecting parts of HK.
The Observatory forecast generally cloudy weather in HK today, with a few showers and squally thunderstorms. Some areas may experience heavier rain.
The weather will be bright at times during the day, with a maximum temperature of about 31 degrees Celsius.
Winds will be moderate to fresh from the east to southeast, occasionally reaching strong force offshore at first.
The weather is expected to become increasingly unsettled over the next two to three days, with occasional showers and thunderstorms.
