According to Indonesian rescue authorities, as of 8:30 am local time on Aug. 16, the death toll from the 7.7-magnitude earthquake in Indonesia has risen to 48, with another 64 injured.
A search and rescue official stated that on Aug. 16, joint rescue teams continued to expand their search areas, carrying out rescue and relief operations for affected residents. Rescue personnel equipped with professional gear were deployed to multiple key areas. As some roads previously blocked by landslides gradually reopened to traffic, rescue workers were able to enter the affected regions to carry out relief efforts. Relevant authorities have also strengthened coordination to ensure rescue coverage reaches all disaster-stricken areas. The joint rescue team called on local residents to remain calm, stay alert for aftershocks, follow the instructions of on-site rescue personnel, and obtain the latest information through official and authoritative channels.
According to official measurements by the China Earthquake Networks Center, a 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck the waters near Flores Island, Indonesia, on the morning of Aug. 15 local time, with a focal depth of 20 kilometres. The tsunami warning issued following the earthquake has since been lifted. The Chinese Consulate General in Denpasar stated that three Chinese citizens sustained minor injuries in the earthquake.
