A Vietnam Airlines flight, VN34, reportedly experienced a tail strike or runway excursion during takeoff. It then circled in the air for over two hours to burn fuel before returning to Munich Airport in Germany. According to videos circulating online, the aircraft also suffered a tyre burst on the left main landing gear upon landing, with thick smoke billowing out.

Reuters reported that Flightradar24 data showed the Vietnam Airlines Boeing 787 was involved in the incident on Saturday (Aug. 15). Passengers were evacuated via slides, and fire crews arrived at the scene.

Vietnam Airlines issued a statement saying the flight was originally bound for Hanoi but returned to the departure airport due to "technical issues" after takeoff. "The crew followed all necessary procedures and landed safely at Munich Airport. All passengers and crew members are safe," the airline said, adding that it is coordinating with relevant authorities and parties to inspect the aircraft.
