A Foreign Ministry spokesperson responded to reporters' questions regarding Japanese politicians' visit to the Yasukuni Shrine.

A reporter asked: Aug 15 marks the anniversary of Japan's surrender in World War II. Today, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi made a ritual offering to the Yasukuni Shrine, while certain Cabinet members paid visits to the shrine. What is China's comment?

The Foreign Ministry spokesperson stated that China strongly condemns the negative moves by Japan concerning the Yasukuni Shrine and has lodged solemn representations and strong protests with the Japanese side. Japan launched wars of aggression during World War II and committed inhuman atrocities. The so-called "Yasukuni Shrine" serves as a spiritual tool and symbol of Japanese militarism. The 14 Class-A war criminals enshrined there were the chief culprits behind the wars of aggression, making the shrine in effect a "war criminals' shrine." Whatever excuses Japanese politicians may fabricate, they cannot conceal their true agenda: to rehabilitate war criminals, whitewash war crimes, distort historical facts, and pave the way for accelerated remilitarization. Such erroneous acts constitute a desecration of historical justice, a challenge to the bottom line of civilization, and a provocation against the post-war international order, moves firmly and universally opposed by the international community.
