Hong Kong's elite athletes will continue to receive cash incentives for top performances at major multi sport events through 2028, after the Hong Kong Sports Institute and the Hong Kong Jockey Club renewed the Jockey Club Athlete Incentive Awards Scheme for a new cycle

At the Aug 12 kick off ceremony, Sports Commissioner George Tsoi, HKJC Executive Director Raymond Tam, and HKSI Chairman Tang King shing marked the continued partnership, with the renewed scheme covering the Aichi Nagoya 2026 Asian Games and Asian Para Games, the 2027 Winter and Summer Universiades, the National Winter Games, and the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games

Swimmer Siobhan Haughey, speaking on the sidelines, encouraged young athletes to stay humble and focus on the process, saying she regularly reviews training footage with her coach, picks one or two areas to improve, and works with her support team on everything from nutrition and recovery to mental and emotional well being

Wushu medalist Hui Tak yan and Para table tennis player Pang Wing ka also shared how the scheme recognises the dedication behind results and helps athletes balance training with study and life commitments

First launched in 1994, the programme remains one of Hong Kong's longest running athlete incentive schemes, offering rewards tied to performances at major Games as Hong Kong's athletes gear up for the next cycle of competition
