US President Donald Trump has long had a public feud with pop star Taylor Swift, previously posting that he "hates" her. Yet recent posts tied to Trump used Swift's music as background audio—before being muted—drawing attention online.
According to UK media coverage, a video posted on TikTok on August 3 showed Trump and First Lady Melania Trump watching fireworks from a balcony, set to Swift's song "August." The post's caption even suggested Swift would be "excited" that her track was used, alongside hashtags referencing Swift and "MAGA." The report said the video has since been muted, removing the music.
Another post also referenced Swift—this time mocking her 2012 album "Red," with a caption that played on the colour red as a symbol of the Republican Party. That video was also reported to have been muted.
The report added that Trump-linked accounts have used Swift's music in other campaign-style videos, with some of those clips likewise switched to silent. It said Trump's social media operation has frequently used popular songs to amplify emotional impact, including tracks by Ariana Grande, Katy Perry, and Olivia Rodrigo—artists who have previously objected to their music being used in this way.
A separate incident in which the White House used Ariana Grande's music in a video involving ICE agents handcuffing and detaining people, prompting Grande to condemn the use of her song and urge that it not be associated with what she described as inhumane actions.
As of the report, Swift had not publicly commented on the muted posts. Trump's past attacks on Swift, including after she endorsed then–Vice President Kamala Harris during the 2024 US presidential election, and a 2025 post in which Trump claimed Swift became less popular after he said he disliked her.
