Hong Kong tennis star Coleman Wong Chak-lam has made history by becoming the first men's player from HK to break into the ATP Top 100 after climbing to a career-high world No. 92 in the latest ATP rankings released on Monday (Aug. 3).

The 20-year-old rose from No. 108 following his semifinal run at the Los Cabos Open in Mexico last week, marking the highest ATP singles ranking ever achieved by a HK men's player.

Speaking after reaching the milestone, Wong described breaking into the world's top 100 as a dream come true. He said that since turning professional, his first major career goal had been to earn a place among the world's top 100 players.

Wong said he was immensely proud to compete on the international stage wearing HK colours and to see his world ranking continue to rise. He also expressed special thanks to his family, coaching team and the people of HK for their unwavering support, saying that hearing encouragement from home while competing overseas had been his greatest source of strength in overcoming pressure and mounting comebacks.

His rise to world No. 92 is expected to secure entry into higher-tier tournaments and significantly improve his seeding and draw prospects at Grand Slam events.

Looking ahead to the hard-court season, Wong will begin preparations for the US Open, the year's final Grand Slam tournament, later this month. He said he hopes to carry his recent strong form into New York and deliver another impressive performance on one of tennis' biggest stages.
