Cape Verdean goalkeeper Vozinha has found a new club after his standout performances at the World Cup, signing an 18-month contract with Chilean powerhouse Colo-Colo, according to Oriental Sports Daily on July 27.
The 40-year-old shot-stopper was officially unveiled at the Estadio Monumental on July 27, where he was visibly moved to tears during the signing ceremony. His monthly salary with Colo-Colo is reported to be between US$25,000 and US$27,000 — approximately three times the US$9,000 he earned at his previous club in Portugal's second tier.
Vozinha, whose full name is José Vozinha, became a free agent after his contract with Portuguese side Chaves expired and was not renewed. Just weeks later, he impressed on the global stage at the World Cup, drawing interest from multiple clubs following Cape Verde's elimination.
In an interview earlier, Vozinha said: "I want to play for at least another year or two, or see how long my body can hold up. We never know what tomorrow will bring."
Born in June 1986, Vozinha did not sign his first professional contract until the age of 26. He has spent much of his career in lower-tier leagues, including stints in Portugal, Cyprus, Slovakia, and Moldova.
Colo-Colo, Chile's most decorated club with 34 league titles, are currently leading the standings at the midway point of the season, making the move a significant step up for the veteran goalkeeper.
