Professional rescuers are using life-detection equipment in coordination with heavy machinery to search for survivors, while additional rescue personnel are still en route to reinforce the operation.
According to Xinhua News Agency, 10 trapped people had been rescued as of 2 p.m. on July 17, and none was in life-threatening condition.
More than 1,100 residents living near the landslide site have been safely evacuated. Water, electricity and gas supplies have been suspended within a 1-kilometre radius of the affected area to facilitate risk assessments. More than 800 rescue personnel are now involved in the emergency response.
