Starting from July 9, 2026, nearly 1,000 licensed restaurants in Hong Kong have launched a new pet-friendly policy, allowing dogs to dine on-site after completing official compliance procedures.

Shortly after its implementation, the new rule sparked heated and divided public discussion. While pet owners hail the change as a major step toward inclusive human-pet coexistence, other residents raise concerns over hygiene risks, public disturbance and restaurant operation issues.

We hit the streets to interview local citizens, collecting their real views on the city's pet-friendliness, public acceptance of dining with dogs, and proper etiquette for pet owners. Interviewees also shared their contrasting attitudes toward barking dogs versus crying babies in public spaces.

Their diverse opinions truly reflect Hong Kong's evolving attitudes toward human and pet coexistence. Let's hear what they have to say.
