According to reports by CBS News and other media outlets, a Boeing 737-800 passenger jet flying from Greece to Germany suffered a shattered window mid-flight on July 10, local time, causing a male passenger's head and shoulders to be sucked out of the opening. With the help of fellow passengers, the man was pulled back to safety.

CBS, citing Greek media, reported that a passenger on board said she heard a loud bang, followed by screams, and then oxygen masks dropped down. A passenger's head and shoulders were sucked out of the window. Fortunately, he had kept his seatbelt fastened. Other passengers near him quickly pulled him back inside.

Videos circulating on social media showed a broken window inside the cabin and oxygen masks dangling in the air after the incident. Greek media reported that the window was shattered by debris that had detached from the aircraft's engine area. Ryanair, the Irish airline operating the flight, said in a statement that "the cabin window detached shortly after takeoff," and the plane subsequently returned to Thessaloniki, Greece, where it landed normally.

CBS noted that a woman died in a similar incident in the United States in 2018. An aviation expert at the time analyzed the risk and warned that if seatbelts are not fastened during flight, passengers could easily be sucked out of the aircraft in such a scenario.
