To strengthen cross-boundary medical transport between Shenzhen and Hong Kong and improve connections between border checkpoints and key healthcare facilities, the dedicated route linking Futian Port and The University of Hong Kong–Shenzhen Hospital has been upgraded and incorporated into Shenzhen's regular public bus network.
Effective July 1, the former R27 customized route was renamed Express Bus No. 37 and began trial operation as part of the city's standard bus system. The route's terminal stops remain unchanged, and three intermediate stops have been added: Huanggangcun North, Xinzhou Village Paifang, and Shangsha, expanding coverage for more passengers along the corridor.
The fare has been adjusted to the unified public bus rate of RMB 3 per trip. Standard concessions apply, including an 80% Shenzhen Tong discount (paying RMB 2.4) and other transfer benefits.
Since beginning service in January 2026, the route has operated 6,949 trips and served 120,800 passenger journeys as of June 28. Passengers aged 60 and above accounted for more than 70% of riders. Under Shenzhen's public transport concessions, seniors aged 60+ (including Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan elderly passengers) can ride free of charge by presenting an identity document, a residence permit for Hong Kong/Macao/Taiwan residents, or an elderly card.
Hospital representatives said the move into the regular bus system reflects recognition of the cross-border medical transport pilot and will support stable, standardized operations for the public.
Separately, Shenzhen New Frontier United Family Hospital has introduced a dedicated cross-boundary convenience service: a free customized shuttle running between Futian Port (MTR Lok Ma Chau Station) and the hospital. The shuttle operates at roughly hourly intervals, with a 10–15 minute one-way journey, and is free; no reservation is required—passengers can wait at the Futian Port bus stop according to the timetable.
As this service is operated by the hospital rather than being a municipal bus route, schedules may be adjusted seasonally without charge; reservations are required, and passengers who miss a departure will need to wait for the next bus.
Residents who frequently travel for medical appointments said the expanded and improved port-to-hospital links help close last-mile transport gaps and make cross-boundary healthcare visits across the Greater Bay Area more convenient and efficient.
