Today, July 1, marks the 29th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the motherland. During the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government's celebratory reception held this morning at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, HK astronaut Lai Ka-ying appeared via video link from the country's space station.
During the video message, Lai displayed the flag of the HKAR in space to express her deep gratitude to the country and her best wishes for HK.
Lai said that being able to meet the public from space on this special occasion reflects the valuable opportunities that HK has gained with the support of the motherland under the principle of "one country, two systems." As HK's first astronaut, she said she feels deeply proud every day of her mission to contribute to the country's space program.
She also expressed her sincere hope that HK will enjoy greater prosperity and stability with the country's care and support, and called on everyone to work together for a better future for both the country and the city.
