Venezuela's oil production has not been affected by the two powerful earthquakes that recently struck the country, the country's oil minister Paula Henao said on June 26 local time, according to CCTV News.
Speaking to the media, Henao said Venezuela is currently producing an average of 1.2 million barrels of crude oil per day. She added that the government has assessed domestic inventories and that supplies of natural gas and fuel remain secure.
According to the minister, management teams at Venezuela's oil companies and workers at oil fields have reported that oil and gas facilities did not sustain significant damage.
Earlier reports said preliminary assessments indicated that Venezuela's major oil and gas facilities suffered only limited damage because they are located far from the cities affected by the earthquakes. However, power shortages could still affect oil production capacity.
Jorge Rodriguez, president of Venezuela's National Assembly, said on June 26 that the powerful earthquake that struck the country on June 24 had killed 920 people and displaced more than 3,000 others.
