On June 24, Chief Executive John Lee's visit to Fujian Province drew to a close. On the last day of his trip, Lee met with several elderly Hong Kong residents living in Fujian for tea at a local restaurant to learn about their lives in Fujian.
This morning, Lee posted on social media that the government is currently implementing the "Fujian Scheme" to provide support for eligible Hong Kong elderly people who relocate to Fujian for retirement. He pointed out that some of the elderly people who participated in today's meeting are beneficiaries of the "Fujian Scheme," and he was pleased to hear them say that the monthly cash allowances provided by the government have effectively improved their quality of life in retirement, and that everyone is living comfortably and happily in Fujian.
Lee noted that last year's Policy Address proposed that the government optimize the distribution arrangements for portable cash assistance, allowing Hong Kong beneficiaries retiring in Guangdong and Fujian provinces to choose to have the government directly transfer funds to their designated bank accounts in the mainland. Lee specifically told the elderly friends present that this new service will be launched next month, which he believes will further facilitate the elderly in receiving allowances and make their retirement life more secure.
