According to a report by Nikkei Asia, Japanese sanitary ware manufacturer Toto plans to invest 80 billion yen (approximately US$495 million) over the next five years to expand its semiconductor materials business, in support of next-generation chip manufacturing technology at the 1-nanometer process level.

Toto's R&D facility in Kanagawa Prefecture is focusing on logic semiconductor research, with the goal of advancing circuit line widths to the 1-nanometer range. In terms of production capacity expansion, Toto will introduce the latest equipment to its plants in Oita and Fukuoka prefectures on the island of Kyushu, both of which are currently operating at full capacity.

A newly constructed firing workshop at the Fukuoka plant is expected to be completed in January next year. If production capacity still falls short of demand at that time, the company will consider building a new factory. This investment plan covers the fiscal year ending in March 2030, of which 39 billion yen has already been committed, while the remainder will be carried out depending on market conditions.
