South Korean memory chip giant SK hynix announced on June 17 that it will eliminate academic degree requirements in its regular recruitment for both entry-level and experienced positions. Qualifications such as "bachelor's degree or above," which were commonly listed in job postings, will be officially retired. The company stated that future evaluations will focus on practical experience, professional competency, growth potential, and cultural fit—a shift designed to better align with the talent needs of the AI era.

SK hynix emphasized that in today's rapidly evolving artificial intelligence landscape, academic credentials and formal qualifications alone are no longer sufficient to accurately gauge a candidate's capabilities. By adopting a more open recruitment system, the company aims to lower entry barriers and level the playing field for applicants from diverse educational backgrounds. Market analysts believe this move will also help SK hynix cast a wider talent net and attract promising young candidates who might otherwise have been overlooked.

Currently, the new policy applies to positions that previously required a university degree, but does not yet extend to technician or production-line roles. However, industry observers suggest that if the initiative proves successful, further relaxation of restrictions could follow in the future. SK hynix has simultaneously launched a new wave of large-scale hiring, targeting semiconductor design roles in next-generation chip development, with plans to recruit several hundred new employees. The application window for this recruitment drive closes on June 23.
