Customs officers at the Qingyuan sub-office under Guangzhou Customs District have intercepted a large consignment of undeclared zongzi (sticky rice dumplings) hidden inside an export shipment declared as "bubble bags and waterproof fabric". The seizure, weighing 1.6 tons, was made during a routine inspection of cross-border e-commerce parcels.

During the examination, officers noticed that several cartons inside the container bore outer labels reading "Alkaline Water zongzi" and "pork zongzi" – products clearly inconsistent with the declared contents. Upon opening the cartons, they found 4,800 individually packed rice dumplings with no prior customs declaration. The entire batch totaled 1.6 tons.

Under China's Customs Law and related regulations, food products are classified as statutory inspection commodities for export. Enterprises are required to submit accurate declarations and undergo mandatory inspection before shipment. Failure to declare, or misdeclaring, such goods constitutes a violation of customs rules.
