Typhoon Mekkhala.

Typhoon Mekkhala, the 7th typhoon of this year, has a new development! The National Meteorological Center of China Meteorological Administration (NMCCMA) said today (June 21) that Mekkhala is expected to move northwestward at a speed of 20–25 kilometers per hour, gradually intensifying and approaching the eastern waters of China's Taiwan. However, before the night of June 23, Mekkhala will not affect China's sea areas. According to the latest typhoon track map released by the NMCCMA, Mekkhala may make a "sharp turn" and move northward toward the eastern waters of Taiwan.

The NMCCMA stated that at 5:00 am today, the center of Typhoon Mekkhala (severe tropical storm intensity) was located on the northwestern Pacific Ocean, approximately 1,530 kilometers east-southeast of Eluanbi, Taiwan – at latitude 15.0°N, longitude 133.4°E. The maximum wind force near the center was 10 (28 m/s), with a minimum central pressure of 982 hPa. The radius of the storm-force winds (Beaufort force 7) is 160–240 kilometers, and the radius of the gale-force winds (force 10) is 60 kilometers. Mekkhala is expected to continue moving northwestward at 20–25 kilometers per hour, gradually intensifying to a severe or super typhoon (48–55 m/s, force 15–16), and approaching the eastern waters of Taiwan. It will have no impact on China's sea areas before the night of June 23.

Meanwhile, the Hong Kong Observatory reported that at 8:00 am, Severe Tropical Storm Mekkhala was located about 1,330 kilometers east of Manila, moving west-northwest at approximately 22 kilometers per hour toward the waters east of the Philippines. The Observatory expects Mekkhala to move toward the waters east of the Philippines and continue to strengthen over the next two days.
