The Stanley International Dragon Boat Championships got underway in full swing at Stanley Main Beach today (June 19) with more than 180 teams and thousands of athletes competing in one of Hong Kong's largest dragon boat events.
With a shorter race course than many other dragon boat competitions, the event is known for its fast-paced and highly competitive racing.
This year's championships continue Stanley's distinctive race format, which sees 12 teams competing simultaneously in each race. The format, combined with a full day of non-stop action, creates an intense and thrilling atmosphere for both participants and spectators.
Alongside the racing, a lively carnival atmosphere has transformed Stanley into a festive waterfront celebration, offering residents and visitors an energetic way to mark the Dragon Boat Festival.
As one of HK's largest dragon boat competitions, the event brings together approximately 4,000 athletes from across the city and beyond. A total of 47 races will be held throughout the day, providing a packed schedule of dramatic competition and spectacular scenes on the water.
