In a Group C match of the World Cup held today (June 14) at Boston Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, US, Scotland secured their first World Cup victory in 36 years with a 1-0 win over Haiti, thanks to a first-half goal from John McGinn. The result temporarily places Scotland at the top of Group C.
Haiti, ranked 83rd in the world and the second-lowest-ranked team in the tournament, started the match with impressive intensity. They launched several quick attacks, with Louicius Deedson and Bellegarde both attempting long-range shots that missed the target. Scotland's offensive threat came largely from McTominay, the Napoli midfielder whose 17th-minute volley struck the post. However, Scotland got a stroke of luck in the 29th minute to break the deadlock: Che Adams' close-range shot was saved by Haiti goalkeeper Placide, but McGinn followed up with a shot that deflected off Bellegarde and into the net. After conceding, Haiti pushed back. In the 34th minute, Rubin Providence and Pierrot both had shots inside the box, but Scotland goalkeeper Angus Gunn made crucial saves. Scotland led 1-0 at halftime.
In the second half, Scotland adopted a more defensive approach, holding onto their lead until the final whistle. Despite Haiti's relentless attacks, they failed to equalize. The match ended 0-1, with Haiti losing to Scotland. With this result, Scotland moved to the top of the group and are now in a promising position.
