South Korea has recently uncovered its first case of examinees using AI smart glasses to cheat on the TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication) English proficiency test. The two individuals involved had their scores canceled and have been banned from taking the TOEIC for four years.
According to Xinhua, the South Korean TOEIC Committee confirmed that the two examinees allegedly used AI glasses to obtain exam-related information during tests taken on May 10 and May 31, respectively. Following subsequent investigations and verification, the testing agency determined that both had violated exam regulations, leading to the cancellation of their scores and a four-year ban.
South Korean media, including Yonhap News Agency, reported that proctors noticed unusual behavior from the examinees shortly after the test began, and discovered that the glasses they were wearing appeared to have smart functions. To avoid disturbing other test-takers, the proctors did not halt the exam on the spot but instead confirmed the violations through a review process after the test concluded.
